Islamabad (August 1, 2017): Election Commission of Pakistan has issued scheduled for the by—election in National Assembly constituency NA-120 Lahore. As per schedule, the polling will be held on September 17.

The seat was left vacant after the disqualification of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who was disqualified by the Supreme Court in Panama case on July 28.

The ECP has received the name of the Returning Officer for by-election.

It may be mentioned here that NA-120 is being considered the home constituency of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) since the time Nawaz Sharif entered politics in 1980.

Ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been getting elected from this area since the first time he became a member of the Punjab Assembly in 1985 on non-party elections during the military regime of General Zia-ul-Haq. In the 1988 general elections, he contested for National Assembly and Punjab Assembly’s constituencies.

In May 2013 general elections Nawaz Sharif won from the NA-120 constituency defeating PTI’s Yasmin Rashid, who managed to secure over 50,000 votes to became the prime minister of Pakistan for the third time.

PTI has announced to field Ms. Yasmin Rashid again in the by-election to contest against Shahbaz Sharif.
