ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly today adopted a resolution conveying warm congratulations to the government and people of China on the completion of 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.

The resolution, presented by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, expressed optimism that the long-standing friendship between the two countries would continue to strengthen in the years ahead. It reiterated Pakistan’s full commitment to the “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership” with China and assured continued parliamentary backing for expanding cooperation in diverse fields.

The House also reaffirmed its support for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), pledging efforts to ensure the timely completion of its projects for the welfare of the people of Pakistan.

Emphasizing parliamentary ties, the resolution highlighted the importance of strengthening legislative collaboration between the National Assembly of Pakistan and the National People’s Congress of China, calling it a key pillar of bilateral relations.

Lawmakers further expressed confidence that the coming decades would bring an even stronger and more productive partnership between the two countries, grounded in shared goals of peace, progress, and prosperity.

Earlier, a Chinese parliamentary delegation led by Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress Cai Dafeng attended the National Assembly session. Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq welcomed the delegation warmly, with members of both treasury and opposition benches showing their appreciation.

The Speaker noted that the visit coincided with the 75th anniversary celebrations of diplomatic relations. He described Cai Dafeng as a distinguished academic and public servant.

Addressing the House, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said Pakistan-China friendship serves as a model for international relations, built on mutual trust, respect for sovereignty, and consistent support through changing global circumstances.

Opposition Leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai also praised the bilateral relationship, describing it as exceptionally strong and deeply rooted. He remarked that the friendship between the two nations is often compared to being “higher than the Himalayas and deeper than the oceans,” adding that the people of Pakistan deeply value China’s support and leadership role.

PPP leader Syed Naveed Qamar added that the relationship has strengthened over time due to sustained efforts by successive governments in both countries.

Separately, the House was informed that the K-IV water supply project in Karachi is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Responding to a Calling Attention Notice, Minister for Water Resources Muhammad Mueen Wattoo said that around Rs 94.67 billion has already been spent on the project, which is considered vital for improving Karachi’s water supply.

The National Assembly has now been adjourned and will reconvene on Friday at 11:00 a.m.
