ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has called a consultative meeting of parliamentary leaders today (Wednesday) to discuss the ongoing parliamentary session and preparations for the federal budget.
According to an official spokesperson, the meeting will take place at Parliament House at 4:00 PM under the chairmanship of the Speaker.
The session is expected to focus on legislative business and the presentation of the federal budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, which is now scheduled to be tabled in the National Assembly on June 12.
Separate sittings of the National Assembly and the Senate have already been summoned for the budget proceedings. The budget was originally expected to be presented on June 10 but was postponed due to pending consultations between the ruling PML-N and its coalition partner PPP.
Government sources said the delay was also linked to the pending release of the Economic Survey and the need for a federal cabinet meeting to approve the final budget proposals before they are introduced in Parliament.
Officials further indicated that the government plans to fast-track the budget process by keeping parliamentary debate relatively brief, aiming to secure approval before the 9th and 10th of Muharram holidays.
