ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq switched off PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan’s microphone after he attempted to raise political issues during a session held in memory of late lawmaker Mahmood Bashir Virk.
Sadiq said the sitting had been called to pay tribute to Virk and recognise his parliamentary service, not to discuss politics. He told Gohar that political matters could be taken up the following day, then cut his microphone.
The speaker also referred to past negotiations, saying the PTI had been given opportunities but had not been prepared to accept what was offered.
Earlier, speaking to ARY News, Gohar said the PTI would challenge the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in the Peshawar High Court. He said the party’s lawyers would file a petition, describing the move as unconstitutional, and vowed to continue the party’s legal and constitutional campaign.
Gohar said the PTI supported democracy and an independent judiciary, and argued that imposing governor’s rule after removing an elected provincial government was unlawful.
The federal government imposed emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, citing worsening security and the provincial PTI government’s stance on a long march. The PTI has governed the province since 2013, with the removed administration its third consecutive government.
