NAB chief announces abolition of file system in new real estate reforms

KARACHI: Lt Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed, Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau, revealed that within two months, new reforms will overhaul Pakistan’s real estate regulatory framework. The reforms, pending approval by the federal cabinet, will eliminate the existing file-based system, shifting full responsibility onto developers.

During an informal briefing, he emphasized that these changes aim to streamline oversight and accountability in the sector. Ahmed also noted that while cases involving parliamentarians are ongoing, NAB no longer issues press statements on such matters, having referred several cases to FIA and other agencies.

Criticizing external reports, he dismissed the IMF’s recent assessment as “baseless” and questioned the credibility of Transparency International, questioning its survey methodology. He also highlighted that NAB’s recent recovery efforts have been among the highest globally, with all funds deposited into the national treasury.
