NAB Court Reserves Verdict On Acquittal Plea Of Babar Awan

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court in Islamabad on Monday reserved verdict on plea seeking acquittal of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Babar Awan after completion of arguments.

During the hearing, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor Zeeshan Masood while continuing his arguments said the state suffered losses worth billions due to a ineligibility of an individual as law ministry had to release only one form that was not issued at the time which was spotted in inquiry report compiled by Rehman Hussain Jaffery commission.

He said that law ministry exhibited attitude of lack of coordination during the tenure of Babar Awan while all letters issued by the Prime Minister Secretariat were part of the record.

Masood pleaded the court to reject the Awan’s petition seeking acquittal in the case.

Babar Awan argued that he was not serving as minister when two summaries for the power project were sent to the law ministry for its approval. He added that approval of the summary was responsibility of the secretary but not the minister. Awan complained that he was only person who was targeted while no action was taken against the persons who were responsible for making delay in the project in light of SC’s verdict.

The accountability court fixed February 20 to release verdict regarding acquittal of Babar Awan in Nandipur power plant case.
