Peshawar (August 02, 2018): Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Amir Muqam appeared before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Peshawar today after receiving a third summon of the anti-graft body yesterday.

Talking to the newsmen after appearing before the NAB, Muqam said he has been given questionnaire after interrogation by the NAB team in the assets beyond means case.NAB has asked to submit the reply within 15 days, he added.

Lashing out at PTI, Ameer Muqam said that PTI has done nothing in KP during last  5 years, alleged that five vote boxes are missing from PK-04.

Last month, the PML-N leader had asked for more time to appear before the anti-graft body. He had informed NAB that he was unable to appear before it due to his engagements pertaining to his election campaign.

The bureau has accused Muqam of purchasing properties in Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar. According to NAB, the accused also purchased agricultural land in Swat, Shangla, and Peshawar.

Earlier on July 12, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) accelerated inquiry against the PML-N leader Ameer Maqam over assets beyond known sources of income and wrote a letter to the department of Punjab excise for more information.

According to details, anti-graft watchdog has started acquiring the record of Ameer Maqam’s four sons, two daughters and wife assets including vehicles and heir registered to their names.

Background Of The Probe:

The NAB is probing against the PML-N leader for owning assets beyond his known means of income. Last month, Muqam sought more time to appear before the anti-corruption watchdog citing his engagements with the electoral campaign.Amir Muqam, who is president of PML-N’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chapter, is accused by the bureau of purchasing properties in Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar, in addition to buying agricultural land in Swat, Shangla, and Peshawar districts.

NAB had initiated the inquiry against Amir Muqam in April this year, since then he had been summoned twice by the bureau, however, he did not appear before the accountability bureau on both occasions.

Muqam has previously served as advisor to the prime minister. He was defeated in recently held general elections 2018 in NA-2 Swat.

The anti-graft body has been actively cracking down against corruption across Pakistan and has arrested a number of notables allegedly involved in various cases of embezzlement.
