NAB Prioritises Conclusion Of Mega-Corruption Cases: Chairman

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (Retd.) Javed Iqbal said on Wednesday that indiscriminate actions were being conducted in all provinces while the institution prioritised conclusion of mega-corruption cases.

Javed Iqbal made the statement while chairing a meeting of executive board at NAB headquarters where the institution approved filing of three corruption references.

NAB will file references against former Karachi Port Trust (KPT) chairman Ahmed Ahmed, former vice chancellor Wali Khan University Dr Ehsan and Khairpur Irrigation Department executive Engineer Ayaz Ahmed while investigation will be commenced against former Inspector General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (IG-KP) Naveed Khan and administration of Mian Rasheed Hussain Shaheed Memorial Hospital.

Former KPT chairman Ahmed Hayat was accused in financial irregularities through illegal allotment that give Rs18 billion loss to national treasury.

Former vice chancellor of Wali Khan University, Dr Ehsan was accused in cases relating to financial irregularities through purchasing of vehicles and fuel expenses.

The NAB Chairman said that the institution was taking concrete steps for making Pakistan a corruption-free country. He rejected the impression of NAB’s capability to investigate white-collar crimes.

He said that Rs900 billion worth corruption cases was filed in accountability courts while 105 out of 179 mega corruption cases were also petitioned by the NAB. He detailed that inquiry was initiated in 15 cases while 19 cases were entered into interrogation phase. Iqbal clarified that the institution was completely believed in elimination corruption without any discrimination.
