NAB References: AC To Resume Trial Against Sharif Family Today

Islamabad (February 07, 2018): An Accountability Court (AC) will resume hearing of corruption references against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family in Islamabad today.

Yesterday, the AC had adjourned the hearing of National accountability Bureau (NAB) references against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members till today after the absence of their lead counsel.

Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir resumed hearing in NAB reference case filed against Nawaz Sharif , his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain retired Safdar.

However, despite of extension in time, Khawaja Haris the council of the former PM Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar did not appear in the court.Earlier Court has adjourned hearing till 2:pm to wait accused counsel.

however after the break neither Khawaja Haris and nor Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar appear before court.

Khawaja Haris, counsel of Sharif family in this case was busy in case in Supreme Court and will take little more time to appear before Accountability Court, on which AC has adjourned the hearing till tomorrow, Wednesday.It is learnt that 24 witnesses out of 39 have recorded their statements so far and statements of two foreign witnesses would have to be recorded but absence of accused counsel hearing adjourned without any development.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed three corruption references against the Sharif family in September last year in light of the Supreme Court’s July 28 verdict in the Panama Papers case. The references pertain to the Al-Azizia Steel Mills, offshore companies including Flagship Investment Ltd, and Avenfield properties of London.
