Naeemul Haque Claims; PTI Will Form Government in Punjab

Islamabad (July 27, 2018): After PML-N’s Hamza Shahbaz claimed his party will form the government in Punjab, PTI leader Naeemul Haque has said that the PML-N will have to sit in opposition in the province as the PTI is confident of forming the government in Punjab.

Haque, while addressing a press conference, denied that his party has contacted the PPP for an alliance in the centre adding that consultation with political parties was underway regarding the formation of governments in Punjab and the centre.

The party remained firm on its former stance to not form an alliance with the Bilawal Bhutto Zardari-led Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

“We have required numbers to form the government in Punjab. We are also in touch with the independent candidates, with whom we will form the government,” the PTI leader said.

Accepting PML-N’s lead in the province, Haque said the majority of the candidates who had won seats in the Punjab Assembly were in support of his party.

The PTI leader also announced that his party would make a formal announcement to form the government in the next few days.

The PML-N is the largest party in the province with 127 seats but PTI is following closely behind with 123, according to the latest tally. The independents — 29 in the province — will play a key role in electing the chief minister.

Earlier, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, leader Hamza Shahbaz on Friday said the PML N will form a government in Punjab.

This he stated while addressing a presser in Lahore today.

Thanking the public for voting for PML-N, Hamza noted the party has emerged as the biggest in Punjab after winning the most seats in the provincial assembly, and will therefore form a government in the province.

“PML-N has emerged as the biggest party in Punjab [in the elections], and we will form a government in Punjab. We will fight back if any obstacles are [hurled in our way],” he said.

Hamza Shehbaz reminded the public that the PTI was allowed to form its own government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the 2013 elections.He slammed the ECP for the delay in election results, and mocked its Results Transmission System (RTS) software which, according to the electoral body, faced a technical glitch during the vote count.

“The RTS [system] failed despite Rs21 billion invested in it,” he remarked, adding that it was the first time in the country’s history that election results had been delayed by more than a day.Hamza resolved that the PML-N will continue to fulfill its constitutional duties under the leadership of Nawaz and Shehbaz.

“Despite our reservations [over the results], we want democracy to flourish in Pakistan,” he said.

In Punjab Assembly, PML-N secured 127 seats, while PTI is following with 117 seats. Meanwhile, independent candidates secured 27 seats of the Punjab Assembly.On the other hand, Independent candidates take centre stage as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf started to contact them for the alliance to form the government in Punjab.

PTI gained the majority of seats in the general polls in the uper house, National Assembly, while In Punjab Assembly, Khan’s party gained 117 seats.

Independent candidates who had secured 27 seats of the Punjab Assembly so far become the centre of the attention for the formation of government.
