KARACHI: Nahal Hashmi has formally assumed the role of Governor of Sindh, after taking the oath of office. The ceremony was conducted by Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajpoot.
Key political figures present at the event included Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjhar, Karachi’s Mayor Mustafa Kamal, Bisher Memon, President of Muslim League N Sindh, along with other prominent politicians and party workers.
The appointment of Nahal Hashmi as Sindh’s Governor was announced the day prior, with the approval of President Asif Zardari.
A Look at Nahal Hashmi’s Political Journey
Originally from Karachi, Nahal Hashmi has been an active member of the Muslim League N for many years. He served as the Law and Justice Advisor to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif between 1997 and 1999. Later, in 2012, he became the President of Muslim League N in Karachi, and in August 2014, he was appointed as the General Secretary of the party’s Sindh chapter.
In 2015, Hashmi was elected as a Senator representing Punjab for Muslim League N. His recent appointment as Governor of Sindh marks a notable phase in his political career.
In 2017, Hashmi was expelled from the Muslim League N due to controversial comments related to the Panama Papers case. Nonetheless, he was reinstated into the party in 2021.
