Naval War College Attack: SC Acquits Life Imprisonment Convict Over lack of evidence

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has acquitted life imprisonment captive Nadeem Hussain in the suicide attack on the naval war college Lahore case over lack of evidence and benefit of the doubt.

The SC three-member bench in Chair of Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa heard the appeal petition of the convicted against the lifetime imprisonment given to him in the attack on the Naval war college Lahore.

The prosecutor told the court in the course of the trial as many as three persons were killed and 18 others were injured in the two suicide attacks on the naval war college in Lahore in 2008.

To which, the CJ remarked that there is no evidence of the such a major terrorist incident and referring to the prosecution “you informed that the accused has a shop where two people were given a two suicide jackets, if all your testimonies were accepted it seemed as the accused shop was used despite that the accused was not present on his shop.” The CJ said that it looked as the accused was dragged into the case even his name was not included in the FIR.

CJ expressed his disappointment that lower courts and even high court did not see all such testimonies and evidence. Later the CJ ordered to set free the convict over the benefit of the doubt.

Earlier, the trial court had awarded the life imprisonment to Nadeem which was retained by the High Court while he has challenged the HC verdict in the Supreme Court.
