Nawaz Regrets Over Failure To Abolish NAB Law

Islamabad (April 24, 2018): Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday regretted for not abolishing the NAB law despite being in power and said that they knew of NAB being a law of martial law era but unfortunately could not abolish it.

Speaking to media after arriving at accountability court to attend hearing into Avenfield Apartments case, the PML-N supreme leader said that the masses, civil society, lawyers and law enforcing authorities have a consensus that judicial reforms should be brought to improve the current judicial system.

Rejecting the proceedings against him in accountability court over London flats, Nawaz Sharif said that they had not purchased the London flats from national exchequer and if anyone claims that they had made these assets through corruption then should prove it.

“We are blamed for corruption of billions but nothing was proved against us,” he said.

On Monday, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif claimed that serious efforts are underway to convict him in the corruption references being heard by the accountability court and are aimed at justifying the five judges.

He said this while addressing media after being exempted from the accountability court proceedings on Monday in a veiled reference towards the five-member SC bench which had disqualified him last year.

Directing his criticism at the CJP once again, Sharif said Justice Nisar visits hospitals regularly and talks about vegetable prices, but he should also the visit home of an oppressed person whose case hasn’t been decided for 20 years.“It is not your job to summon the chief minister and make the government stand in the line.” “What is prevalent in the country is not democracy, but the worst kind of dictatorship under Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar.”

“What is happening in the country is not less than a ‘judicial martial law’,” said the former prime minister.

Criticising recent judgements by the courts as “illogical”, Sharif said the alleged silencing of 220 million people of Pakistan would not be acceptable to him.“These many restrictions were not even imposed during the martial laws that we are seeing today,” he remarked.

Earlier in the day, former prime minister and PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif said that after a meaningful statement of taking orders from the top for Senate chairman elections from JI chief Siraj ul Haq, the PTI chief should inform as to on whose orders he voted for Arrow-referring to election symbol of PPPP.

Talking to media before appearing at the accountability court-I of Islamabad for hearing into Avenfield properties reference case, flanked by his daughter Maryam, Nawaz asked the nation to pray for the early recovery of his wife Kulsoom Nawaz, who is battling a severe disease and is being treated at London Hospital and said that her condition is improving gradually.He said that Imran Khan is admonishing his MPAs over selling out votes to other parties but when would he show cause himself for taking directions to vote for Senate chairman.

“Will Imran tell the nation on whose votes Chaudhry Sarwar won the Senate seat from Punjab province,” he said adding that those who are talking for change in country are laying foundation of their politics on violating basic principles.The PML-N chief termed filling the ground with sewerage water meant for a rally from PTM leader Panzoor Pashteen as grave injustice and said that it was against the freedom of speech.

He also said that chief justice give his orders but when somebody speaks on it then he comes under restrictions on freedom of speech.
