Nawaz Sharif pledges development for Gilgit-Baltistan regardless of election outcome

GILGIT: Addressing a public gathering in Gilgit on Tuesday, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif vowed to continue working for the progress of Gilgit-Baltistan regardless of the election results.

“Whether you vote for PML-N or not, my commitment to the development of Gilgit-Baltistan will remain unchanged,” he told supporters at the rally.

Highlighting his party’s past achievements, Sharif said that major infrastructure projects, including roads, hospitals, and the airport, were completed during the PML-N government. He challenged political opponents to identify similar contributions made by other parties in the region.

The PML-N president promised close oversight of upcoming development schemes, adding that he would personally review their progress. He also announced plans to visit Gilgit-Baltistan every two months if his party forms the regional government.

Expressing concern over the state of local infrastructure, Sharif described the condition of roads in the area as disappointing and pledged to improve them.

He further promised to introduce electric bus services in Gilgit-Baltistan similar to those currently operating in Punjab. In addition, he announced scholarships, laptop distribution programs, interest-free loans, and employment opportunities aimed at supporting the region’s youth.
