Nawaz Sharif Shifted To PIMS Hospital

Islamabad (July 29, 2018): Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is serving a 10-year jail term after being convicted for owning assets beyond income in the Avenfield reference, was shifted from Adiala Jail to Islamabad’s Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) after developing serious cardiac complications.

Doctors conducted a check-up of the former premier after he complained of chest pain and advised that he be shifted to a coronary care unit (CCU) immediately, sources said.Following this, the jail superintendent contacted the additional chief secretary. “In light of the additional chief secretary’s report, the caretaker government decided to shift Nawaz to PIMS,” sources in the Interior Ministry said.

“Nawaz’s electrocardiogram (ECG) was conducted and showed changes as per the medical report,” sources said.

Earlier, doctors, who were holding medical checkup of ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif, have advised on Sunday to immediately shift him to intensive care unit (ICU) from Adyala Jail.

The medical board headed by Dr Ejaz Qadeer and comprising cardiologist Dr Naeem Malik, Medical Specialist Dr. Shaji Siddiqui, neurologist Dr Sohail Tanvir and Dr Mashood carried out medical checkup of the former PM after he complained about pain in his arm and heart.

Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) team said that Nawaz Sharif is unwell as he is suffering from heart disease, glyceride, cholesterol and diabetes. Jail sources told that Nawaz’s ECG was not satisfactory.

Meanwhile, interim Punjab Home Minister Shaukat Javed has decided to shift ex-premier to PIMS hospital for proper medical facilities.

Sources said preparations are underway to shift him to the hospital as the jail administration and police have been put on an alert.

The former premier will be moved to the hospital any time soon after a nod of approval from the federal government.Medical Board Clears Reports of Nawaz Sharif

Earlier on July 24, a medical board formed to ascertain the health of the Former PM, Nawaz Sharif said that health of former PM is satisfactory his all reports all clear.

During their visit, which lasted approximately 2.5 hours, the doctors conducted another check-up of the premier. They also carried out medical tests and briefed Nawaz on his medical condition, sources said.

Blood samples of the incarcerated leader would be sent to a laboratory, they added.

The medical board also apprised the jail administration of Nawaz’s condition and instructed the authorities to monitor his vitals including blood pressure and sugar levels at regular intervals.

Mamnoon Directs PM To Ensure Complete Treatment to Nawaz Sharif

Earlier on, the President Mamnoon Hussain telephoned interim prime minister Nasirul Mulk on Monday and expressed concern over the deteriorating health of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in Adyala Jail.

According to details president, Mamnoon Hussain directed the caretaker prime minister to make sure all possible treatment facility to the former prime minister.

“All required treatment facilities should be provided to Nawaz Sharif,” president directed caretaker government.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir PM Farooq Haider and Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Hafeezur Rehman also expressed concern over Nawaz’s health and requested the caretaker government to ensure he is provided the best medical treatment.

Shehbaz Sharif Expressed ConcernsPakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on Monday pleaded to the caretaker government to shift Nawaz to a hospital in line with the medical board’s report.

He expressed concerns on ailment of Nawaz Sharif in Adyala Jail and complaint that despite request time and again for medical facilities to former prime minister, jail administration deprived him off form basic necessities.

“I appeal once again to the caretaker government to shift Nawaz to a hospital based on the medical board’s report,” Shehbaz said while adding that he has serious concerns regarding Nawaz’s health worsening in jail.

The former Punjab chief minister added, “It is the jail administration’s responsibility to provide basic medical facilities to Nawaz.”The PML-N president upheld that jail authorities “deprived Nawaz of basic facilities despite repeated requests”.

Shehbaz also questioned, “Why wasn’t I or anyone in my family informed that Nawaz wasn’t feeling well?”

Stating that he requested the caretaker premier and Punjab chief minister to provide a personal physician to Nawaz, the PML-N president lamented, “But they ignored my appeal.”
