NDMA issues heavy rain, storm, and flood alerts across Pakistan from July 6 to 10

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and floods across various parts of the country from July 6 to July 10.

According to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Lahore, Kasur, and Okara are expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall. In Multan, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan, there is a forecast of heavy winds along with rain at multiple locations. 

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also at risk, with thunderstorms and rain forecasted in areas such as Dera, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Bhatgram, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Haripur, Bannu, and Khost.Heavy rainfall is expected in Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Sator, Diamer, Ganche, Shigar, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalkot, Havelian, and Bagh, with the potential for flooding being explicitly warned about.

In Sindh, cities including Sukkur, Nawabshah, Khamis Mushayt, Hyderabad, Karachi, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Thatha, Badin, and Mithi are anticipated to experience rainfall. Additionally, heavy rains in Ghotki, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu could lead to urban flooding.

The forecast also includes heavy rainfall in cities of Balochistan such as Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Quetta, Khuzdar, Awaran, Barkhan, Jafarabad, Kohel, Sibi, Dera Bugti, Loralai, Lasbela, and Naseerabad. Severe weather conditions may cause urban flooding, landslides, power outages, and traffic disruptions.Citizens are advised to stay away from weak structures, mud walls, electric poles, and billboards during storms and heavy winds. Reduced visibility during storms can lead to accidents, and sudden increases in water flow in local streams and nullahs pose additional risks. 

NDMA has directed all relevant agencies to take proactive measures to handle potential emergencies effectively,  spokesperson emphasized that decisions regarding specific seats have further endangered the parliament, and urged the public to stay informed about weather conditions and potential hazards through the Pakistan NDMA Disaster Alert App
