ISLAMABAD: The government has frozen banks accounts of some 2021 people associated with different sectarian parties including Maulana Abdul Aziz of Lal Masjid, Maulana Ahmed Ludhyanvi of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), Allam Ameen Shaheedi and Maqsood Domki of Majlis-e-Wadatul Muslimeen.
On the directives of National Counter Terrorism Authority (Necta), the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) froze the bank accounts of leaders and members of different sectarian outfits. The accounts have been frozen to prevent funding and financing of terrorism in the country.
The names of those leaders and activists of the parties whose accounts have been frozen are on Fourth Schedule.
Province wise breaks show that banks accounts of some 1443 from Punjab have been frozen, 226 from Sindh, 193 from Balochistan, 106 from Gilgit-Baltistan, 26 from Kashmir while accounts of 27 from federal capital have been frozen.
It is astonishing to note that bank accounts of not a single person from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has been worst affected by terrorism and militancy, has been freezed
The prominent figures whose accounts have been freezed inlcuded Ahmed Ludhyanvi and Aurangzeb Farooqi of banned ASWJ, former Khateeb of Lal Masjid, Allama Ameen Shaheedi, Maqsod Domki and Nayer Abbas of Majlis-e-Wehdatul Muslimeen, and Mohsin Najfi of banned Tahreek-e-Jaffria.
