ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has introduced fixed charges for residential consumers consuming up to 300 units of electricity each month. This decision comes following a request from the Power Division to streamline billing policies.
The new fixed charges now apply to both protected and non-protected domestic consumers. Previously, these charges were only imposed on non-protected consumers exceeding 300 units of usage per month.
Under NEPRA’s recent ruling, protected households consuming up to 100 units will pay a fixed fee of 200 rupees per month. Those using up to 200 units will be billed 300 rupees in fixed charges each month.
For non-protected households, the fixed charges are structured as follows:
- Up to 100 units: 275 rupees per month
- Up to 200 units: 300 rupees per month
- Up to 300 units: 350 rupees per month
The charges adjust for higher levels of consumption:
- 301 to 400 units: fixed charges increased by 200 rupees, totaling 400 rupees.
- 401 to 500 units: an increase of 100 rupees, bringing charges to 500 rupees.
- 600 units: an increase of 75 rupees, making the total 675 rupees.
- Up to 700 units: fixed charges are reduced by 125 rupees, maintaining a total of 675 rupees.
- For usage above 700 units: fixed charges remain at 675 rupees, representing a reduction of 325 rupees.
The move aims to create a uniform fixed charge system that covers various consumer categories and usage brackets, promoting fairness and clarity in billing practices.
