ISLAMABAD: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has released State of Industry and Annual Report 2022-23
The power sector in the country has failed to provide uninterrupted cheap electricity to the consumers, the rising cost of electricity has affected the domestic, commercial, industrial and agricultural sectors.
The main reason for the slowdown in economic growth has been attributed by NEPRA to the increase in the cost of electricity, As per State of Industry and Annual Report 2022 the power sector is facing problems in capacity payment, imported fuel, expensive power plants, circular debt, transmission distribution system and Expensive power plant engines put a burden of Rs. 46 billion on the power sector during start-up in just one year. Several power plants have been found involved in the violation of power purchase agreements. The violation of power purchase agreements has caused a loss of 17 billion 90.1 million rupees in one year.
