NEPRA Requested To Increase Electricity Prices

ISLAMABAD: The Central Power Purchasing Agency has requested NEPRA to increase the price of electricity.

The CPPA has requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority to further increase the price of electricity. If the application is approved, it is likely to impose a burden of Rs 25 billion on power consumers.

The CPPA took a stand in the petition that the most expensive production of electricity from diesel and furnace oil is the reason for the high cost of electricity. Last month, electricity was generated from diesel at Rs 22.62 per unit. An increase of Rs 2.7 per unit is likely.

According to NEPRA officials, the application has been submitted to the Fuel Price Adjustment Authority in August, which will be heard on September 30
