Net metering policy prepared to be issued on cabinet approval: Awais Leghari

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has said his ministry has prepared a net metering policy on the directives of the federal cabinet which will be issued upon approval.

Addressing a workshop on changes in electricty sector in Islamabad, the Energy Minister said that the prices of electricity are on decline constantly.

The Minister said that electricity is being generated on an expensive fuel owing to bad situation of scarcity of water in the country.

Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari said that Diamer-Bhasha Dam will definetly increase availability of water but getting the cheap electricity will not be possible.

He said that we don’t have financing for electricity generation from Diamer-Bhasha Dam.

He expressed determination that we want to end power losses in coming three to four years adding that the government don’t get timely information of grids

He stressed that Pakistan has to boost up electricity generation through coal and gas for basic load.

He apprised that a whopping 60 billion will be saved yearly on transferring tube wells to solar energy in Balochistan.

Describing the government measure he said that we ended 3000 MW power plants running from furnace oil.

We were trying consumers will not be passed on burden of distributions losses while we were also trying power plants running on imported fuel could not cause an impact on enviroment.

He said that alternative energy revolution has come to Pakistan adding electricity demand declined in the last two to three years and today we have an electricity surplus of 7000 MW.

He said that for the purchase of electrcity buying in future a competitive market will be established.
