Dubai: New Zealand have opted for batting first after winning toss against India in final of Champions trophy 2025 here in Dubai.
New Zealand played the tournament opener against Pakistan and registered a big win.
They followed it up with a clinical chase against Bangladesh that marked the return of Rachin Ravindra from injury.
Against India, Kane Williamson put up a solo effort in a tough run-chase, but couldn’t take them over the line.
Ravindra and Williamson then joined hands to each score hundreds in the semi-final against South Africa that helped New Zealand put up a mammoth total well beyond the Proteas’ reach.
India started the tournament against Bangladesh with a comfortable victory riding on Shubman Gill’s hundred in the run-chase.
They followed it up with another comprehensive performance in the big match against Pakistan, this time with Virat Kohli scoring an unbeaten ton.
New Zealand gave them the toughest fight in the group stage, but it wasn’t enough to defeat India.
In the semi-final, they knocked out Australia to qualify unbeaten for the Champions Trophy final.
