WEB DESK: The Nigerian government has successfully rescued around 100 children who were abducted last month from a Catholic boarding school and has pledged to secure the release of approximately 150 others still held captive.
The freed children, aged between 10 and 17, arrived dressed in football jerseys, robes, and slippers. They were welcomed by officials with hugs, handshakes, and group photos taken in front of cameras.
These children were among the 303 students kidnapped from St Mary’s Catholic School in the Papri community of Niger State on November 21. The abductors also seized 12 teachers from the school.
Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago, speaking at Government House in Minna, assured the public that the recently freed students would soon be reunited with their families in Papri.
He urged continued support, saying, “For those who have been praying, please continue to pray. We remain hopeful that the remaining students in captivity will also be rescued.”
President Bola Tinubu expressed appreciation for the efforts of security forces in ensuring the safe return of the children but refrained from sharing further operational details.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the cause, stating that all abducted students and other kidnapped Nigerians must be safely rescued and reunited with their families.
