RAWALPINDI: Pakistani security forces have killed nine militants allegedly linked to Indian-backed groups during two separate operations carried out in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank and Lakki Marwat districts.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the first operation was launched in Tank on the basis of credible intelligence. Troops surrounded the hideout of militants and, following a heavy exchange of fire, seven operatives were neutralized.
A second intelligence-driven raid was conducted in Lakki Marwat, where security personnel engaged another militant cell. As a result, two more terrorists were killed.
The ISPR said a cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the militants, who were reportedly involved in attacks against security forces, law enforcement agencies, and the targeted killing of civilians.
The military spokesperson added that area-clearing operations are ongoing to track down any remaining militants. These actions are part of Pakistan’s continued counterterrorism drive under the national strategy “Azm-e-Istehkam,” approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan.
Earlier this month, security forces also carried out two successful operations in North Waziristan. Six militants were killed during an intelligence-based operation in Mir Ali, while another militant was eliminated in Spinwam after a brief firefight. The group was said to be responsible for a series of attacks on security personnel, police, and innocent civilians.
