KARACHI: Captain of Pakistan Cricket team, Sarfaraz Ahmed has said that he is not going to resign from captaincy as Pakistan Cricket Board had appointed him as captain and it will decide the matter for removal or retention on the post.
Addressing a presser in Karachi after reaching from London, Sarfaraz Ahmed expressed regret as the team could not qualified for semi-final despite winning five matches of the World Cup adding that all the players of the team recognized the results.
Wicketkeeper and batsman, Sarfaraz Ahmed said that the bad conditions of pitches made difficult to increase the run rate adding that the team run rate went down after defeat against West Indies.
Pakistan’s team dream of playing the semi-final shattered when rain equalized the match against Srilanka, he claimed.
On a query, he said that “we as a team admit that we could not play well in five matches and returned back to the country with 11 points and performance of the team as a whole was not such a bad.”
Refuting rumors of differences in the team he said that coach Mickey Arthur handled the team amicably. To a question over not given chance to Husnain in a single match, he said that we did not find any condition in any game to allow him to play.
The captain informed that a meeting was called after defeat against India and players reviewed their performance and expressed their feelings openly.
He claimed that we were all disturbed after defeat against India like the whole nation and it was a tough time on the team during the tournament.
Sarfaraz said that like other teams, Pakistani team also went to the World cup to win the tournament and the team included the most of the junior players except Muhammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik.
He said that the team provided the opportunity to the best players of the team during the tournament while, unfortunately, Shoaib Malik could not be given chance in the last match.
On his earlier statement to make 500 runs against Bangladesh, he said that he had not said that we would make 500 runs but he meant if any miracle happened we would able to score 500 runs.
