No polio case reported in country since February this year: Kamal

Islamabad: Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal has pointed out that no polio case reported since February this years in a preparatory meeting before a start of polio campaign headed by Prime Minster Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif today.

The PM was chairing a meeting in Islamabad on Thursday, today, to review the anti-polio campaign.

Federal Minister for Health Syed Mustafa Kamal briefed the meeting that anti-polio campaign will begin from Monday and will continue till Sunday next.

As many as 4.5 million children across the country will be vaccinated during the campaign, the Minister informed the meeting.

Over 0.415 million thousand polio workers will participate in this nationwide campaign, Kamal added.

The Minister further informed that on the instructions of the Prime Minister, third-party validation of the campaign will also be done from 28th to 30th of this month.

Kamal added that not a single polio case has been reported in the country since February this year.

On the other hand, the cold chain tracking of the anti-polio campaigns is being monitored under a digital system, he apprised.

The PM has directed the authorities concerned to ensure that every child under the age of five receives polio vaccine during the anti-polio campaign beginning from 21st April.

The Prime Minister directed for 100 percent nationwide provision of routine vaccination for immunization against other dangerous diseases.

He also called for grass root level awareness and community mobilization for the polio campaign.

Appreciating the work of polio teams, the prime Minister said the entire nation is proud of them as they are performing frontline role in the fight against this deadly disease under difficult circumstances.

The Prime Minister also lauded the role of national and international agencies and partners for polio eradication.
