Notice issues to PM and President over delay in CEC, ECP appointment

ISLAMABAD:  High Court has issued pre-admission notices to the federal government, the Prime Minister through the Principal Secretary, and the President through the Secretary in response to a petition challenging the delay in the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commission members.

Justice Muhammad Azam Khan of the Islamabad High Court heard a petition filed by opposition leaders Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz in the National Assembly and Senate.

The court issued a pre-admission notice to the Chief Election Commissioner and members of the Election Commission as well.

The petitioners were represented by Advocate Samir Khosa, who argued that the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commission members were still in office despite their term having expired.

The court inquired whether the process for the appointments of the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commission members had begun.

Advocate Latif Khosa responded that the process had not yet started, and a parliamentary committee needed to be formed.

Consequently, the court issued a pre-admission notice and adjourned the hearing until April 29.
