Opposition once again stages Walkout from National Assembly

Islamabad (June 2, 2017): Joint Opposition on Friday once again staged walkout from the National Assembly against the ‘blackout’ Opposition Leader budget speech.

According to the details, opposition parties on Friday once again staged walk out of National Assembly over not broadcasting Khurshid Shah’s speech.

Before announcing to walk out of the Assembly, Opposition Leader Khurshid Shah while addressing Speaker National Assembly said that it was up to you not to allow opposition to speak on budget.

He added that the purpose of Opposition’s parallel session was to highlight public issues. He added that the government was fighting with institution.

Shah said that the country was facing a crisis and people were in distress.  He added that no effort was spared to torn apart law. He added that PPP had lifted the bodies of its workers during struggle against Musharraf dictatorship. “Today, the institutions are being abused and the judges are being threatened directly,” he added.

Referring to Nihal Hashmi’s threatening speech Shah said that had such speech been made by anyone from PPP he would have been hanged at Minar-e-Pakistan.

It is to be mentioned here that Opposition is protesting against the government for not telecasting opposition leader speech live on PTI during budget session. The opposition lawmakers are boycotting the National Assembly session and are holding parallel budget session outside the Parliament House.

Referring to the statements of Nehal Hashmi, Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khurshid Shah strongly bashed government for threatening judges who are hearing Panama Leaks case.

He further asked the leaders to tell where they are leading parliament and democracy.

Earlier, Shah criticized the government by reciting a poetic verse, and then warned Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq to air budget speeches live to ensure opposition’s participation.

Khurshid Shah said we should not be scared of any Modi or Jindal, we should be afraid of Allah only, as He holds the power over all.

The opposition members said that people become strong by empowering parliament, and it should be the center of all politics and leaders.

Earlier, taking the Floor, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that PML-N believes in the supremacy of the state institutions.

He said we have sacrificed a lot for supremacy of judiciary.

 

He said it is the result of the struggle of PML-N that judiciary has been strengthened in the country.

Khawaja Asif said that statement of Nihal Hashmi is condemnable and the party has taken appropriate action against his move.

He said his party membership has been cancelled and he has resigned from the seat of Senate.

He said it is collective responsibility of both the government and opposition to work for strengthening the state institutions under the constitutional mandate available to us.

Taking part in the debate, Shaista Malik congratulated the government on presenting people friendly, comprehensive and balanced budget. She said the budget will bring positive change in the lives of the people and improve the living standard of common man. She proposed that more funds should be allocated for education for the uplift of this sector.

The House will now meet on Monday at four p.m.
