ISLAMABAD: The opposition alliance, “Tehreek-e-Hifaz-e-Aeen Pakistan,” has officially agreed to the government’s proposal for dialogue.
A crucial meeting convened under the leadership of Mahmood Khan Achakzai saw participation from key figures including Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Sajad Tareen of Balochistan National Party Mengal, PTI’s Asad Qaiser, along with Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar and spokesperson Khanazada Hussain Yousafzai.
After deliberations, the coalition released a statement affirming their readiness to negotiate on issues such as parliamentary supremacy, the rule of law, and safeguarding human rights. They underscored their commitment to fortifying constitutional and democratic principles through constructive talks.
The alliance expressed their willingness to collaborate with political entities on restoring the constitution, ensuring parliamentary dominance, and establishing civilian control. They also highlighted their openness to discussions on conducting transparent elections and appointing a consensus-driven Election Commission.
The opposition’s spokesperson clarified that negotiations on a new constitutional framework and an overarching charter are on the table. According to them, such an agreement is essential to resolve ongoing political and economic challenges, restore stability, and improve governance. Mahmood Achakzai has taken responsibility for facilitating the signing of this new charter, potentially involving PML-Q.
In an interview on Geo News’s program “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzaada Kay Sath,” Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Vice President of “Tehreek-e-Hifaz-e-Aeen Pakistan,” confirmed their preparedness to engage with the government on constitutional issues and the new agreement. He stressed that dialogue should remain open and that they are taking the Prime Minister’s recent statements seriously. All coalition partners, including PTI, are currently being consulted.
Khokhar further revealed that Mahmood Achakzai has indicated that if the government is genuinely committed, they will secure the signatures of PTI’s founding members. He clarified that their negotiations will not include demands for the release of PTI leaders or the termination of ongoing cases. Their focus remains on constitutional matters and the new pact. Should the government take steps forward, they are ready to enter a new phase of dialogue.
It is important to mention that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had extended an invitation to PTI for negotiations just yesterday. During a session of the Federal Cabinet, he stated that PTI leadership has signaled a willingness to engage and reaffirmed his previous calls for dialogue. He warned, however, that negotiations would only be successful over legitimate demands and cautioned against attempts to use talks as a means of coercion or blackmail.
