ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday ruled that if the work on Orange Line project will not be completed till May 20 it will confiscate the surety amount of three construction firms and ordered to submit a surety amount of Rs 10 million each to each of the three firms.

As per details, SC heard a case pertaining to the Orange Line Metro Project and directed to conclude the project till May 20.

Justice Gulzar during the hearing expressed anger towards Project Director Fazal Haleem and termed him responsible for the delay in the project. If the contractors are not working throw them out or put them in jail, Justice Gulzar asserted.

The top court then ordered the construction companies to submit a surety amount of Rs 1 billion each which will be confiscated in case of delay.

To which, the lawyer of the construction company told the court that we cannot submit that much amount. The court can send my client to jail, by adding that we have already submitted a surety amount of Rs 2 billion and Rs1.5 billion is due on the government.

At which SC’s Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan said that it is a project of national interest and billions have been spent on this project.

SC then ordered the three constructions firms responsible for the project to submit surety amount of Rs 10 million each. The court has also ordered to confiscate the amount in case of any delay within the project.

The court during the hearing also ordered to include Justice (R) Jamshed or Justice (R) Abul Sattar Asghar as the head of Technical Committee.

However, the court has also ordered the Punjab government to consider Justice Zahid Hussain if he is willing to continue.
