RAWALPINDI: General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), made a farewell visit to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) today.
This visit marks the end of General Sahir Shamshad Mirza’s distinguished tenure as the final CJCSC. His departure comes ahead of Field Marshal Asim Munir taking on the newly established role of Chief of Defence Forces, following the discontinuation of the CJCSC position.
Upon arrival at GHQ, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza paid homage to Pakistan’s martyrs by laying a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada. He was given a ceremonial Guard of Honour by a meticulously prepared contingent of the Pakistan Army, signifying the close of a historic chapter in Pakistan’s military history.
During their interaction, Field Marshal Asim Munir expressed his appreciation for General Sahir Shamshad Mirza’s exemplary service and celebrated his impressive military career. He praised his dynamic leadership, strategic foresight, and steadfast dedication to the Pakistan Armed Forces.
The Field Marshal emphasized General Mirza’s instrumental role in fostering inter-services coordination, improving joint operational preparedness, and shaping unified military strategies through effective command mechanisms. He also highlighted the General’s efforts in advancing regional peace and fostering military diplomacy.
Field Marshal Asim Munir noted that under General Mirza’s tenure, Pakistan significantly strengthened its defence ties with ally nations and pursued initiatives aligned with critical national security priorities.
In response, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza thanked Field Marshal Asim Munir for his unwavering support and expressed his gratitude towards the Armed Forces for their trust and collaboration throughout his tenure.
General Sahir Shamshad Mirza’s service as the 18th and final CJCSC will formally conclude on 27th November 2025, coinciding with the enactment of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which eliminated the CJCSC office.
