Opposition leader in National Assembly and Chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Khursheed Shah has said that the PAC should be given more powers to overcome corruption in government institutions.
Chairing a meeting of the PAC the opposition leader said that he has written a letter to Speaker National Assembly for suggesting him to establish a separate secretariat for the PAC .
Khursheed Shah said that the PAC is bigger forum than Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
He said” We cut off our hands and order FIA, NAB to investigate and after that FIA and NAB disappear for six months and later stay orders come from courts.”
The PAC chairman further said that the PAC should have powers to review court cases, so that, the committee could say to courts to give verdict in specific period.
Member of the committee Mahmood Khan Achakzai in the meeting said that lame parliament can will have lame PAC.
Auditor General said that an amendment has been suggested that report be given to President regarding reported cases of vital importance.
