Pak-Afghan border crossings will remain closed, Foreign Office

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office spokesman Tahir Andrabi has stated that the Afghan border corridors will remain closed, emphasizing that safeguarding the life of an ordinary Pakistani takes precedence over the trade and import of goods.

According to Andrabi, a written agreement was finalized and signed during the Doha talks. However, he noted that whether the Afghan Taliban acknowledges this agreement or not does not impact Pakistan’s stance. Discussions with Afghanistan are planned for tomorrow, where Pakistan will urge Afghanistan to honor the commitments made in the Doha negotiations.

During a press briefing, Andrabi mentioned that the situation in Afghanistan is being closely observed in the context of the Doha discussions. He also reiterated Pakistan’s adherence to international laws regarding river rights and expressed concern over the Afghan Taliban’s announcement to construct a dam on the Kunar River, which originates in Chitral.

Addressing India-Afghanistan relations, Andrabi remarked that while the reopening of India’s embassy in Afghanistan is an internal matter between the two nations, India’s historical role in Afghanistan has not been constructive.

On another front, he condemned Israel’s plans to integrate the West Bank, labeling the Israeli parliament’s controversial legislation as a blatant violation of international law. He affirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state. He further stated that Pakistan demands full compliance with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) opinion, calling for unhindered humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza’s population.

Andrabi also touched upon recent diplomatic engagements, noting that Pakistan hosted delegation-level talks with Poland during Deputy Prime Minister-level meetings. Both nations agreed to enhance bilateral relations and expand cooperation across various domains.

Additionally, Andrabi shared updates on contacts between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and his counterparts from the UAE and Saudi Arabia, as well as with the Moroccan Foreign Minister. These discussions revolved around regional and global developments alongside issues of mutual interest.
