ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has formally accepted an invitation to become a member of the ‘Board of Peace,’ aimed at fostering lasting stability and humanitarian support in Gaza, the Foreign Office announced on Tuesday. This initiative is part of the broader Gaza peace effort endorsed under UN Resolution 2803.
A Foreign Office representative expressed optimism that Pakistan’s involvement will help secure a durable ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate increased humanitarian assistance for those affected. “We remain committed to supporting Gaza’s reconstruction and addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of the Palestinian population,” the spokesperson stated, reaffirming Pakistan’s consistent backing for Palestinian self-determination. The spokesperson also emphasized that Pakistan’s participation aligns with its longstanding support for a two-state solution based on the pre-1967 borders and that the country intends to contribute positively as a member of the Board of Peace.
The decision to join was made after an invitation from the U.S. President to Pakistan’s Prime Minister. Pakistan anticipates that its role in the Board will help bring about a durable ceasefire and bolster humanitarian efforts in Gaza.Following Pakistan’s announcement, Turkey also agreed to join the global peace initiative, becoming a key contributor in efforts to promote peace in Gaza, according to the Turkish Foreign Ministry. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is scheduled to sign the agreement establishing the Board of Peace on January 22 in Switzerland, symbolizing Turkey’s formal commitment to the peace process.
The Turkish Foreign Minister highlighted Turkey’s proactive diplomatic stance, noting that the move underscores the country’s dedication to stabilizing conflict zones. Moreover, high-level discussions on peace and stability are expected to take place during the upcoming Davos Forum, where Turkey will engage with international partners on humanitarian and diplomatic solutions for Gaza.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced his acceptance of an invitation to join the U.S.-led “Board of Peace” aimed at conflict resolution. Netanyahu’s office confirmed that he will participate as a representative of Israel, alongside other world leaders.
