Pakistan, Afghanistan’s talks in KSA conclude without major developments, ceasefire endorsed

RIYADH: The recent diplomatic talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan, held in Saudi Arabia, have ended without any substantial breakthroughs, citing officials from both nations, that the two sides have agreed to maintain the existing ceasefire.

These discussions, conducted last week, were part of a series of diplomatic efforts hosted by Qatar, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, aimed at easing the border tensions that flared in October. The primary goal was to foster stability and reduce hostilities between the neighboring countries.

According to media, the ceasefire agreement established in Doha has been largely maintained. Nonetheless, a subsequent meeting held in Istanbul last month did not succeed in securing a comprehensive, long-term resolution.

Sources from both Pakistan and Afghanistan indicated that the latest negotiations were facilitated by Saudi Arabia’s initiative and support.

It is important to remember that the border clashes in October led to multiple casualties on both sides. Pakistan has pressed the Taliban for a formal written commitment to act against groups that threaten Pakistan’s security, but Taliban officials have so far declined to provide such assurances.
