ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Ahsan Iqbal, has stated that Pakistan aims to become a $1000 billion economy by 2035.
During a press conference in Islamabad, Ahsan Iqbal announced the launch of the Udaan Pakistan initiative, he remarked that in the past, Pakistan missed opportunities when the country could have embarked on a path of progress, but now, he said, such opportunities will not be wasted, he expressed his determination to transform Pakistan into an Asian Tiger.
The Planning Minister further emphasized that to achieve the goal of becoming a $1000 billion economy by 2035, it is essential to turn Pakistani products into a global-quality brand and to boost the growth rate to 8-9%. He stressed the need to put an end to political turmoil and hatred to achieve this objective.
Reflecting on Pakistan’s economic situation between 2018 and 2022, Ahsan Iqbal stated that the country had become mired in a debt trap during that period. However, he pointed out that the time has now come for the nation to unite and take steps towards economic recovery. He stated that by 2029, a solid foundation for a strong economy will be laid, with annual exports reaching $60 billion. Following this, in the next 8 to 10 years, the goal is to increase exports to $100 billion. Criticizing the PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf), the Federal Minister said that one political party had plunged the nation into depression and eroded the country’s self-confidence.
