Pakistan army continues flood relief efforts in Punjab

JHANG:  As severe flooding impacts various regions nationwide, the Pakistan Army remains actively engaged in rescue and relief missions across Jhang, Chiniot, and neighboring districts.

Military personnel are deploying boats to evacuate stranded residents, including the elderly, women, and children, and relocating them to safer areas. The flood-affected communities have expressed gratitude for the military’s unwavering support during this challenging time, emphasizing their solidarity with the affected populations.

In anticipation of possible flooding in Sindh, the provincial authorities have established the Rain and Flood Emergency Monitoring Cell. This body maintains continuous surveillance of barrage water levels and flood conditions.  The Sindh Chief Minister has directed the Flood Emergency Control Room to operate around the clock, with the Chief Secretary’s office also actively monitoring developments.

Current Water Levels at Key Barrages

Guddu Barrage: Upstream inflow at 322,819 cusecs and outflow at 307,956 cusecs

Sukkur Barrage: Inflow of 303,480 cusecs, outflow of 252,110 cusecs

Kotri Barrage: Inflow of 273,844 cusecs, outflow of 244,739 cusecs

Authorities are maintaining vigilant oversight of all barrage levels across Sindh. Representatives from the Irrigation Department, PDMA, Health, and Livestock sectors are stationed in the control room to ensure seamless coordination with district officials.

Prompt responses continue to address public grievances, with ongoing efforts to relocate vulnerable families to designated shelters. Sindh government officials report that 102 high-risk points have been identified, and machinery along with emergency supplies have been dispatched accordingly.  At Trimmu, water inflow and outflow have reached 493,159 cusecs, with floodwaters swiftly advancing toward Guddu Barrage. Authorities caution that up to half of the flood-affected population may need to be evacuated to relief camps.

Two helpline numbers—021-99222967 and 021-99222758—have been established for flood-related assistance.

All embankments in Sindh are reported to be secure, with emergency measures in place to manage rising water levels from Panjnad. Continuous monitoring is ongoing in sensitive districts such as Sukkur, Larkana, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Dadu, and Jamshoro. Between Sukkur and Guddu, a total of 515 relief camps and 300 livestock shelters have been set up to aid those displaced.
