Pakistan, Bangladesh to Resume Political Talks after 13 Years

ISLAMABAD: After more than a decade-long pause, Pakistan and Bangladesh are set to revive high-level diplomatic engagement, as the Pakistan-Bangladesh Political Consultative Meeting is likely to be held in Dhaka on April 17, sources confirmed.

According to diplomatic sources, Foreign Secretary Amina Baloch will represent Pakistan at the upcoming meeting, which marks a significant step forward in improving bilateral ties between the two South Asian nations. This will be the first political consultation between Islamabad and Dhaka in 13 years, with the previous one held in 2012.

The political consultation meeting is expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in the cultural, economic, and educational sectors. In addition to exploring new avenues of collaboration, officials from both countries will also discuss the revival of the Pak-Bangladesh Joint Ministerial Commission, which last met in 2005.

In a further sign of strengthening relations, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is scheduled to visit Bangladesh from April 22 to 24, shortly after the political consultations.
