Pakistan can’t run with capacity payments as it become matter of national security: Mustafa Kamal

Islamabad: The Muttahida Quami Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that Pakistan can’t run along with the capacity payments to the International Power Producers (IPPs), now it has become matter of national security.

Syed Mustafa Kamal reached the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority headquarter today for decision of K-electric tarrif, electricity bills in Karachi, apprehensions on the K-electric and expensive agreements with IPPs.

A MQM-P delegation in the chair of Syed Mustafa Kamal called on the Chairman NEPRA.

After meeting with NEPRA chairman, Syed Mustafa Kamal said that now time has come to say to IPPs we made a mistake and end the agreements .

The former mayor apprised that we demanded the NEPRA to decided the matter of K-electric tariff.


He apprised that he said to the NEPRA the electricity system will not be corrected until the competition will not be created.

Licences will be issued to companies having capacity of generating enough electricity, he said.

The NEPRA has said that they have made a frame work to give licences to more than one companies and it will be implemented from October this year.

The MQM-P leader said that ample of amount of electricity existed in the country adding we have a capacity of generating 43,000 MW electricity despite that 17 to 18 hours load shedding are being carried out.

Syed Mustafa Kamal said that people are deprived of electricity but they get heavy bills.

He said that the bills are so much heavy that the people are not able to pay on the other hand electricity companies are being paid for not making the electricity.

He said that until the more companies will not come the electricity system can’t be fixed.
