ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have reached an agreement to enhance their cooperation in space sciences, with a focus on astronaut training and the development of a dedicated Pakistan Space Center. This initiative is part of their comprehensive five-year Action Plan (2025–2029) aimed at strengthening their partnership in the new era.

Under this framework, both nations will continue implementing the 2021–2030 Space Cooperation Outline Program, established between the China National Space Administration and Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission. They reaffirmed their commitment to joint efforts in lunar exploration and deep space research, including joint assessments of the International Lunar Research Station and collaboration on cutting-edge space technologies.

A key component of the plan involves the joint selection and training of astronauts, potentially paving the way for Pakistan’s involvement in human spaceflight missions in partnership with China. The establishment of the Pakistan Space Center is also a priority, envisioned as a hub for research, technological development, and the practical application of space-based solutions to foster economic growth and social progress.

Furthermore, both countries agreed to strengthen cooperation on utilizing China’s Earth Observation System platform, granting Pakistan access to advanced remote sensing and satellite technology. This will support critical sectors such as agriculture, disaster management, water resource management, climate monitoring, and urban development.

This strategic action plan underscores the importance of space technology as a driver of Pakistan’s economic modernization and deepens the long-standing strategic partnership between China and Pakistan. Their collaboration in space science signifies mutual benefits and shared strategic interests, expanding beyond traditional areas like trade, infrastructure, and defense to include frontier technological domains.
