Pakistan committed to global peace, say President, PM

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to promoting global peace and international stability.

In his message on the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, President Asif Ali Zardari paid tribute to peacekeepers serving under the UN flag across conflict-hit regions of the world. He expressed solidarity with all personnel striving for peace, security, and humanitarian protection.

The President honoured the sacrifices of 183 Pakistani peacekeepers who embraced martyrdom while serving in various UN peace missions. He stated that Pakistan remains proud of its longstanding contribution to international peacekeeping efforts.

Highlighting Pakistan’s role in global peace initiatives, the President noted that the country hosts one of the oldest UN peacekeeping missions  the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP). He emphasized that the mission’s continued presence reflects the international community’s responsibility to support a peaceful and lasting resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

In a separate message, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s consistent participation in UN peacekeeping operations demonstrates its enduring dedication to multilateral cooperation, global peace, and collective security.

The Prime Minister joined the international community in recognizing the courage and sacrifices of peacekeepers serving under the United Nations banner worldwide.
