Islamabad(July 04, 2018): Caretaker Minister for Finance, Dr Shamshad Akhtar has reiterated Pakistan’s strong commitment to take every possible step to root out the menace of terror financing and money laundering.
She expressed these views during a meeting with US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Alice G. Wells in Islamabad.
She briefed the US official about Pakistan’s participation in recent FATF meeting in Paris and measures being taken to address concerns in this regard.
They discussed the current state of Pak-US relations with particular focus on economic cooperation besides overall security situation in the region.
On the occasion, Finance Minister said that such bilateral visits enhance understanding of each other’s point of view on important issues. She also apprised Ms Wells about the current state of economy and said it is poised to move forward on the path of growth despite difficulties.
Alice G. Wells said relations between Washington and Islamabad have great importance and her country likes to carry it forward. She appreciated Pakistan’s stance on FATF issues.
Alice Wells Meets COAS To Reaffirm Commitment For Peace:
US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Alice G. Wells called on Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa in Rawalpindi.
During the meeting, views were exchanged on issues of mutual interest, regional security and cooperation between both the countries.

Alice G. Wells commended the sacrifices and resilience of the people and armed forces of Pakistan and appreciated the role Pakistan Army has played in battling the scourge of terrorism.
Both reaffirmed the commitment towards the common goal of peace and stability in the region and discussed measures towards that end. They also agreed on continued engagement at multiple levels.
Earlier Alice Wells met Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua and deliberated upon bilateral.
They agreed that Pakistan and the United States must take pertinent measures for establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The Taliban leaders residing outside Afghanistan pose a hindrance to the United States-led Afghan peace process, a senior State Department official said Saturday.
In a statement, Ambassador Alice Wells, the senior bureau official for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the US Department of State, explained that American leadership desires decisive moves in the peace talks.
Wells, who is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad today on an official visit to meet top Pakistani officials, had announced earlier that Washington had put the country on notice again and expects unequivocal cooperation in ending the sanctuaries the Taliban have been enjoying in its territory — a claim Islamabad denies.
“Pakistan is on notice that we expect its unequivocal cooperation ending sanctuaries that the Taliban have enjoyed since the remnants of their toppled regime fled into Pakistan in 2001,” the ambassador had said in an official testimony before the US House Foreign Affairs Committee.
