ISLAMABAD: In a retaliatory move, Pakistan on Tuesday ordered an Indian High Commission official to leave the country within 24 hours, declaring him persona non grata for violating diplomatic norms and international protocols.
The decision mirrors India’s earlier expulsion of a Pakistani diplomat, who was similarly declared persona non grata without any concrete evidence and accused of engaging in activities “incompatible with his diplomatic status.”
Pakistan’s Foreign Office condemned the Indian action, calling it baseless and unjustified. In response, Islamabad took reciprocal measures, reaffirming its commitment to diplomatic parity and international law
This diplomatic escalation comes just a day after a significant breakthrough between the two countries, as the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both sides held talks following a ceasefire initiative endorsed by U.S. President Donald Trump. During the meeting, both DGMOs agreed to uphold the ceasefire and refrain from any aggressive military actions along the Line of Control.
The tit-for-tat expulsions have cast a shadow over the fragile peace efforts, raising concerns about renewed tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
