Pakistan Hails Azerbaijan-Armenia Peace Accord, Applauds US Mediation

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has extended a warm welcome to the peace accord reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia, calling it a pivotal moment for regional harmony.

The agreement, brokered at the White House Summit under the leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump, is intended to end long-standing hostilities in the South Caucasus.

In an official statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz congratulated President Ilham Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan, describing the deal as a reflection of “visionary leadership and strategic wisdom.” He said the development marks the beginning of a “new chapter of peace, cooperation, and prosperity” in the conflict-affected region.

“Pakistan has always stood by our Azerbaijani brothers and continues to do so on this significant occasion,” the premier affirmed. He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for Azerbaijan’s pursuit of durable peace and regional stability.

Shehbaz Sharif also commended President Trump’s efforts in facilitating the negotiations, which culminated after years of military confrontations and diplomatic standoffs over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

He emphasized that the peace deal could unlock new avenues for economic integration, trade, and infrastructure connectivity in the broader region. “This achievement underscores the potential of diplomacy and constructive engagement in resolving even the most complex disputes,” he noted.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that the successful resolution of tensions in the South Caucasus would inspire similar diplomatic initiatives elsewhere in the world, particularly in areas plagued by protracted conflicts.

“This breakthrough is a testament to what persistent dialogue and international cooperation can achieve,” Shehbaz said, framing the accord as a beacon of hope for global peacebuilding efforts.
