Pakistan hints at extending ceasefire in operation Ghazab lil Haq against Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD: The temporary suspension of Operation Ghazab lil Haq came to an end at midnight last night, but officials in Islamabad have indicated that the pause could be prolonged under certain conditions.

A senior source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Pakistan may continue the halt in operations if specific criteria are met. “The pause will remain in place only if no attacks originate from Afghan territory,” the source explained. “As long as terrorist activities from across the border stop, Pakistan will refrain from taking military action. Any attack against Pakistan from Afghan soil, however, will be met with a decisive response.”

Another key condition for maintaining the temporary ceasefire is the prevention of the formation or regrouping of militant organizations operating from Afghanistan. The source emphasized that Pakistan’s actions are strictly defensive and aligned with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

“When groups such as Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant outfits operate from Afghan soil, Pakistan targets their safe havens, training camps, and shelters. As long as no hostile action comes from Afghanistan, there will be no strikes,” the official added.

The initial temporary pause was announced during the celebrations of Eid-ul-Fitr and lasted until March 24 at midnight, providing a brief respite amid ongoing counterterrorism operations along the border.
