ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, Pakistan and India conducted the exchange of prisoner lists and nuclear installations in line with the 2008 Agreement on Consular Access.
This agreement mandates both nations to share updated lists of prisoners held in each other’s custody twice a year, on January 1 and July 1.
Officials confirmed that the simultaneous exchange of information occurred in Islamabad and New Delhi, facilitated by the consular departments of both countries.
The primary objective of sharing the prisoner lists is to uphold the legal and humanitarian rights of detainees in each nation and to enable consular access, sources revealed.
Additionally, both countries exchanged details of their nuclear facilities, a confidence-building measure designed to promote mutual trust and ensure regular information sharing under existing arms control frameworks.
According to sources, these initiatives are viewed as crucial steps toward fostering long-term cooperation and enhancing transparency between Pakistan and India.
