Pakistan is out of economic crisis: IMF Lagarde

ISLAMABAD: International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director (MD) Christine Lagarde on Monday said that Pakistan had come out of the economic crisis.

She stated in a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Monday. During the meeting, She remarked “Pakistan is now certainly out of economic crisis.”

Lagarde lauded the prime minister on successfully completing the IMF programme and achieving macroeconomic stability during a short period of time.

Prime Minister said that due to untiring efforts of the government the economy had been stabilized within a short period of three years. He said that the government would end load shedding within next two years. He said that Pakistan was successfully marching ahead on the road to overcome terrorism, energy and economic crisis. He said that Pakistan had deployed 2 lakh soldiers in northern areas to eradicate terrorism.

“It is a fantastic step in your journey that you have achieved a better and solid economic position in a brief period of two years,” she said. Completion of the IMF programme reflects very positively on Pakistan, she said.

The IMF MD said that economic growth has gradually increased, and the fiscal deficit has reduced while inflation has continuously declined in Pakistan. She also appreciated the country’s strengthened social safety nets and tax policy and administration reforms, according to PM Office.
