Pakistan Navy Successfully Test-Fires LY-80 Surface-to-Air Missile

RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Navy has reaffirmed its combat readiness and operational strength by conducting a wide-ranging naval exercise in the North Arabian Sea, highlighting its evolving capabilities in both conventional and unmanned warfare domains.

A key highlight of the exercise was the successful live firing of the LY-80(N) Surface-to-Air Missile from a Vertical Launch System at extended range. The missile accurately intercepted and destroyed an aerial target, confirming the effectiveness and long-range reach of the Navy’s advanced air defence network.

The drill also demonstrated precision strike capability through the employment of Loitering Munition, which effectively engaged and eliminated designated surface targets. This showcased the Navy’s ability to conduct accurate and modern warfare operations in complex maritime environments.

In a major step toward autonomous naval operations, open-sea trials of an Unmanned Surface Vessel were conducted successfully. The trials validated the platform’s high-speed performance, endurance, and operational reliability. The USV exhibited exceptional maneuverability, accurate navigation, and resilience in challenging weather conditions, offering a stealthy, low-risk solution for future maritime missions.

The exercise was observed by the Commander Pakistan Fleet and reflected the Pakistan Navy’s growing proficiency in deploying advanced and integrated combat systems.

Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, praised the officers and sailors for their professionalism and high operational standards. He reiterated the Pakistan Navy’s unwavering commitment to defending Pakistan’s maritime frontiers and protecting national interests at sea under all circumstances.
