ISLAMABAD: Ireland has the world’s most powerful passport, according to a new ranking of passports and Pakistan placed the 195th position out of 199 countries.
While other passport rankings only consider visa-free travel, the Nomad Passport Index 2025 takes into account five areas: visa-free travel, taxes on citizens, dual citizenship, personal freedom, and the global perception of the country.
In this ranking, Ireland’s passport was ranked number one, allowing its citizens to travel to 176 countries without a visa. Additionally, the country performs better than others in various other areas. Overall, Ireland scored 109 points.
Greece and Switzerland shared second place with 108 points, while Portugal ranked fourth. Portugal and Malta tied for fifth, and Luxembourg, Finland, and Norway shared the seventh position. The United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, and Iceland were ranked tenth.
Interestingly, in other rankings, Japan and Singapore often top the list, but they are much lower in this one. This is due to their policies on dual citizenship and taxes, which lag behind those of other countries.
On the other hand, Pakistan ranked fifth among the weakest passports, holding the 195th position out of 199 countries. Below Pakistan are Iraq (196th), Eritrea (197th), Yemen (198th), and Afghanistan (199th).
