Pakistan places 198th Worldwide in internet speed rankings.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan ranks 198th globally in internet speed rankings, according to a report by the World Population Review.

According to a recent report, Pakistan ranks lower than countries like Palestine, Bhutan, Ghana, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, and Libya in terms of internet speed. The average mobile internet download speed in Pakistan stands at 19.59 Mbps, while broadband speeds average 15.52 Mbps.

On the global front, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) leads in both mobile and broadband internet speeds, followed by Singapore for mobile internet and Qatar for broadband. Hong Kong and Chile are ranked third and fourth, respectively, for mobile internet speed.

The report also highlights that, with technological advancements, internet speeds are expected to improve in the coming years.

Sajjad Mustafa Syed, Chairman of the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), has expressed confidence that the ongoing internet speed issues will likely be resolved within the next three months, despite concerns that the implementation of a firewall may affect connectivity. He explained, “If a message is being sent via WhatsApp but images aren’t transmitting, it could be an indication that monitoring is taking place.”

In the meantime, users across various regions of Pakistan are experiencing intermittent internet outages and slower speeds, significantly affecting their ability to browse, download, and share media. Both Wi-Fi and mobile data services are facing substantial slowdowns, making it difficult for users to send or receive media files such as images, videos, and voice notes on popular platforms like WhatsApp.
